Avara Studio is a Te Whanganui-a-tara / Wellington based design studio. Their practice exists to provide people with timeless objects that elicit joy in their daily life. Avara’s experience with chronic pain has shown her just how important small details of the material world can be to help energise, inspire and create curiosity. Maintaining presence and gratitude for every day is something she hopes her practice inspires for others.

She is currently focussed on making jewellery and has some other non-wearable, ceramic objects in the works. All Avara Studio objects are crafted with longevity and sustainability in mind. Avara has a Masters in Industrial Design which grounds her studio mahi.

Outside of Avara Studio, Avara brings her design research expertise to system-level, social impact health projects. The current projects she has on the go include; reducing the prevalence of rheumatic fever in Aotearoa, improving maternity services and increasing wellbeing in schools for Māori and Pasifika tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.
